The Metropolitan Museum of Art .. Fulltime Associate Web Developer

General Description: The Associate Web Developer assists in the ongoing maintenance and enhancement of the Museum web site. This position will be responsible for much of the programming related to the Web site’s front-end interface, including programming new online features and front-end functionality, working with designers to develop new design templates, and handling updates to existing pages or features as needed. This position requires great attention to detail, as well as the willingness and ability to meet project timelines.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Primary focus will be on front-end development with some back-end work
  • Complete HTML, XHTML, ASP and ASP.NET production of various new features
  • Ensure cross-platform optimization for new and existing web projects
  • Establish and enforce coding standards to maximize efficiency of page maintainability
  • Provide accurate and realistic estimates for completion of assigned projects and tasks
  • Strive to meet project timelines
  • Other related duties

Experience and Skills:

  • Extremely detail-oriented individual with at least 2 – 3 years experience in a collaborative, fast-paced, Web production environment
  • Experience with ASP.NET 2.0, 3.5
  • Experience with ASP.NET MVC
  • Experience with XML and XSLT
  • Experience with Photoshop and issues related to digital imaging
  • Experience with JavaScript
  • Experience with AJAX
  • Experience with SQL
  • Familiarity with Umbraco
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Proficient use of the English language, both in written and oral form
  • Ability to work in a collaborative environment

Knowledge and Education:

  • Interest in, knowledge of, and enthusiasm for the Internet and related technologies.
  • Interest in photography, art, or art history preferred.
  • Experience with or knowledge of .NET-based content management systems
  • Knowledge of and passion for user interface design
  • Experience with or knowledge of Silverlight and/or Flash

Villanova University – Instructor

POSITION: Full-time, continuing Instructor/Assistant Professor

COMPANY: Communication Department, Villanova University

LOCATION: Villanova, PA

REQUIREMENTS: M.A./M.F.A. in Communication or related field (must be completed by August, 2010), evidence of teaching success at the collegiate level. Other required qualifications: professional expertise with major productivity, design and print/web publishing software, as well as web development. Specific background in HTML, XML, CSS, HTML5, and Dreamweaver. Experience with Macintosh OS. Other preferred qualifications: Experience with a wide variety of multimedia software for Mac OS, such as Photoshop, Final Cut Pro, Avid Media Composer and ProTools.

DUTIES: Our new colleague will have both teaching and administrative/technical responsibilities.

TEACHING: teach 2 undergraduate/graduate courses per semester in multimedia production, digital image production (and other production courses, based on his/her area of expertise), in a way that fosters connections across the Communication Department’s curriculum.

ADMIN/TECH: In addition, s/he will coordinate all Departmental multimedia initiatives. S/he will be given authority over the Communication web site, and will be charged with developing and maintaining the COM Department multimedia portal. As multimedia coordinator, s/he will support the various web needs of the COM Department and faculty.
